The yahoo! Maps user interface was developed by an in-house design team of which i was the lead designer in group of six, including an interaction designer and a user researcher. we created this UI with our development team using a combination of adobe flash on the design side, and Adobe Flex on the programming side.
I designed this interface to take full advantage of flex's unique features, offering the user a powerful tool with which users could interact seamlessly with maps, satellite imagery, and traffic conditions amongst other interface features.
During this project we redesigned and improved the visual metaphors of the cartography, and overall clarity & legibility of the map. in a later releases, the team engaged with a cartographic specialist to further improve and brand the visual aspects of Yahoo's mapping engine.
